Frequently asked questions
About the lessons
What types of courses and lessons do you offer?
All our courses are 100% online.
We offer both English improvement courses for those who want to start from scratch or improve their language skills, and courses for those aiming to achieve a specific certification level. We offer more than 45 different paths to meet all needs: certifications, conversation, business English, written English, one-to-one lessons, speaking, etc.
Each course includes live speaking lessons with certified native-speaking teachers and grammar lessons with Italian teachers.
In the certification preparation courses, there are also tailored lessons to practice for exams (IELTS, or Cambridge Linguaskill), with teachers assigning and correcting exercises on a weekly basis.
The improvement courses are available for learners of all levels, including A0 (those who have never studied English).
Why are the courses flexible?
Because there are no fixed lesson times; you communicate your availability for days and times. Our large teaching team ensures availability throughout the day, from early morning to late evening, including weekends. Additionally, since it's 100% online, you can attend lessons from wherever you are, requiring only a screen and an internet connection.
Moreover, since it’s 100% online, you can attend classes wherever you are, with just a screen and an Internet connection.
This maximum flexibility makes our courses accessible to everyone: adults, workers, parents with children, and university students.
At what time can I choose to have lessons?
The lesson time is chosen by you at the start of the course, based on your availability, which you will need to update at the beginning of each month. The available time slots for lessons are from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Monday to Sunday. You'll find the updated lesson schedule within your personal area on the platform. Additionally, you have the option to reschedule or make up for missed lessons due to unforeseen circumstances.
Are the lessons live?
Yes, the lessons in our courses are always live, allowing direct interaction with teachers and classmates (for group lessons). Since classes are small, with a maximum of 4 people, you'll always have the opportunity to participate whenever you wish.
All lessons are also recorded and made available for you to review whenever you want to revisit or better understand certain parts. In addition to live lessons, we provide plenty of materials that you can access whenever you desire.
Where are the lessons held?
All lessons are held online via video call through the Google Meet platform. You will find the access link to the lessons in your calendar within our digital platform.
Who will teach me?
You will be taught by TEFL-certified native-speaking teachers, which is the certification that qualifies professional English teachers from all over the world. Each teacher is prepared to manage lessons with students of different levels, adjusting the difficulty according to the class or individual.
For courses starting at the basic levels and grammar lessons, there are also Italian teachers, all TEFL-certified, to ensure an optimal learning experience of the language foundations.
Are the lessons individual or group-based?
Both. We offer both group lessons and individual lessons to adapt to your preferences. For group lessons, the classes are small, with a maximum of 4 students per lesson: we made this choice to ensure each student has direct involvement and participation in the lessons, interacting with the teacher and benefiting from dialogues with other students of the same level. Alternatively, you can choose a package of one-to-one lessons, where you can also select to have the same teacher for each lesson when booking through our digital platform.
How are the classes formed?
Classes are formed so that students starting at the same level are grouped together, optimizing the learning experience for everyone and ensuring a gradual path suitable for the individual. Our teachers specialize in creating programs tailored to the different levels, so you won't have to compare yourself with more advanced students, and you won't risk falling behind.
Are the materials explained during the lessons available afterward?
Absolutely. All materials are uploaded to our digital platform and remain available for the entire duration of the course, so you can use them wherever and whenever you want. The platform also provides access to recorded lessons in case you wish to review them.
How long do the courses last? And how many lessons per week are included?
Our courses have a variable duration of 3 to 6 months depending on your needs, with a total number of lesson hours ranging from 24 to 82. Each week you can have between 2 and 6 hours of lessons, depending on the chosen path and the type of lessons included. Individual lessons can last 1 or 2 hours depending on the course.
Can I pause the course?
Yes. If for personal, study, or work reasons you need to pause the course and restart it later, it is possible. You simply need to contact our support team (whose details are available on the platform) and inform them of your need: together you will agree on the duration of the pause, and when you want to resume the course, you will pick up where you left off. This service does not require additional costs.
About the certifications
Which certifications do you prepare for?
We prepare for 3 types of certifications with our courses.
IELTS Certification. It is issued by the British Council after an exam that evaluates 4 skills: Writing, Reading, Listening, Speaking. Based on the score obtained, the corresponding level certification is awarded.
Cambridge Linguaskill. Developed by Cambridge, it is a computer-based, multi-level and adaptive test that determines your level of English. It is divided into 4 sections: Reading and Listening (combined), Writing, and Speaking.
The mentioned certifications follow the CEFR scale (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), are internationally recognized by companies, organizations, and institutions. Unlike many other certifications (including Cambridge First, Advanced, or Proficiency), which assess a specific level, the above certifications are standardized. This means that the exam is the same for all levels, and it is not possible to “fail” the test: you always receive a certification, depending on your performance in the exam, with the possibility of achieving the highest language levels (C1 and C2).
What does A1, B2, C1, etc., mean?
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is an international standard that defines language proficiency on six levels, from A1 to C2. Here's a brief description of each level:
A1 (Beginner). This is the basic level, where one can understand and use everyday expressions and simple phrases. You can introduce yourself and others and interact in simple conversations, provided the interlocutor speaks slowly and clearly.
A2 (Elementary). At this level, you can understand frequently used phrases and expressions related to immediate needs and everyday or familiar topics. You can communicate in a simple and direct manner on common topics, even with limited language and the help of the interlocutor.
B1 (Intermediate). You can converse about basic topics such as family, school, work, shopping, and leisure. You can handle most language situations during travel and produce texts on familiar topics.
B2 (Upper Intermediate). At this level, you can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics. You can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity with native speakers.
C1 (Advanced). At this level, you can read and write a wide range of complex and lengthy texts, and express yourself fluently and spontaneously without effort. You can use the language flexibly and effectively for social, academic, professional, and creative purposes.
C2 (Mastery). This is the highest level, where you can easily understand everything read or heard, and express yourself completely even on complex topics. You can summarize information from various spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments coherently and fluently.
What is the purpose of obtaining a certification?
A language certification in English is a very useful document internationally that can be used for admission to universities abroad (undergraduate and graduate degrees, master's programs, postgraduate programs, MBA, PhD), to score points in public competitions and for the armed forces, and to enrich your CV to be more competitive in the job market.
Better IELTS or Cambridge?
Both IELTS and Cambridge (First, Advanced, Proficiency) certifications are excellent options. While Cambridge certifications focus mainly on British English, IELTS covers both British and American English. Additionally, Cambridge certifications require preparation for a specific level: if you don't pass, you don't get the certification. In contrast, the IELTS exam is the same for everyone, and the certification is guaranteed: the level assigned depends on the score achieved in the exam. Finally, IELTS is recognized worldwide for study, work, and migration purposes (i.e., to obtain work, study, or residence visas abroad), which means it opens many doors globally. It is currently the most requested certification, created by the Cambridge entity as the English counterpart to the American TOEFL.
Who issues the IELTS certification?
The entity that issues the IELTS certification is the British Council, with which Edusogno is partnered. The exam must be taken at one of their centers or online following their instructions. The IELTS scores are assigned exclusively by the British Council, not by Edusogno.
How much does the IELTS exam cost?
The cost of the exam is €200 (not included in the Edusogno course fee), payable to the British Council, which is responsible for issuing the certification.
Can I take the IELTS exam directly with you?
No, Edusogno provides the course to prepare you for the IELTS exam with a high score, but the exam itself must be taken at one of the British Council centers or online according to their procedures. At the end of the course, we will provide you with information on how to book the exam.
What is the validity of the IELTS certification?
IELTS certifications have a recommended validity of 2 years. This is not an expiration date, but a general guideline to indicate that if the level of English was certified more than 2 years ago, it might have changed. However, if you use English for study or work, or if you have taken additional courses or gained more experience in English after that date, no company or entity will consider the time limit, as you are actively using the language. If you need IELTS for scoring in a competition (public or private), we recommend obtaining the certification within 2 years before the application, to ensure that the point calculation will be valid.
All certifications expire after 2 years (even those that promise lifelong validity!). The expiration date does not depend on the certification itself, but on the entity you are applying to: generally, the most important academic and business institutions require certificates that are no more than 2 years old.
On the “certified or refunded clause”
How does the refund work?
After our tutors have assessed your starting English level, we agree with you on the level to be achieved at the end of the course based on your goals and the total number of lesson hours you are willing to take. The target level becomes the result we commit to guarantee: if you do not reach it by the end of the course, you will receive a 100% refund of the amount you paid.
Can I get a refund even if I paid in installments?
Yes, you can. The refund, if applicable, is issued regardless of the chosen payment method and will be paid in one lump sum.
